Chun Lian Reimagined explores the evolution of cultural heritage through typography, materiality, and augmented reality. Created for Typeforce 13, Chicago’s premier typography exhibition, this project reinterprets Chun Lian (春联)—traditional Spring Festival couplets—by merging classical calligraphy with contemporary design. The work uses bold typography and stitched visual elements to symbolise the ways tradition is preserved, adapted, and reimagined across generations.

The couplet 龙跃千山辞岁去,蛇盘玉宇纳春来 (The dragon leaps beyond distant peaks, bidding farewell to the passing year; the serpent coils within the jade heavens, ushering in the dawn of spring) marks the transition from the Year of the Dragon (2024) to the Year of the Snake (2025).Through WebAR integration, viewers can scan the artwork to unlock animated interactions that bridge static print with digital motion, challenging the boundaries of typographic storytelling. By activating heritage rather than archiving it, this work reflects my ongoing design practice of engaging with language, semiotics, and interactive media, rethinking how tradition lives in contemporary spaces.
